Traffic Violations and Oklahoma's Point System

Oklahoma's point system applies to all traffic convictions processed through Beaver County District Court. Points are assigned to your driving record based on the type of violation. The Department of Public Safety suspends licenses when a driver hits 10 points in a five-year period. Reckless driving and failure to stop for a school bus each add 4 points. At-fault accidents and improper passing each add 3 points. Careless driving, failure to obey a traffic signal or stop sign, and failure to yield each add 2 points. Failure to signal and defective vehicle violations add 1 point each.

Speeding convictions add points based on how far over the limit you were driving. Going 11 to 25 mph over adds 2 points. Speeding 26 to 40 over adds 3 points, and 41 or more over adds 4 points. Going 10 mph or less over the limit results in a fine but no points. Fines double in construction zones and school zones under Oklahoma law. You can subtract 2 points from your total by taking an approved defensive driving course, once every 24 months.
