Traffic Law and Points in Comanche County
All District Court traffic convictions in Comanche County go on your Oklahoma driving record through the statewide point system. DPS tracks these points and can suspend your license if you reach 10 points in a five-year period. Reckless driving and failing to stop for a school bus each add 4 points to your record. At-fault accidents and improper passing each add 3 points. Careless driving, failure to obey a stop sign or light, and failure to yield add 2 points each. Failure to signal and defective vehicle each add 1 point.
Speeding carries point values based on how far over the posted limit you were going. Going 11 to 25 mph over adds 2 points. Going 26 to 40 over adds 3 points. Going 41 or more over adds 4 points. Driving 10 mph or less over the limit brings a fine but no points. Fines double in construction zones and school zones under state law. You can reduce your total by 2 points by completing an approved defensive driving course, which is allowed once every 24 months.
Some violations cause automatic license suspension regardless of your point count. These include DUI, driving without insurance, eluding police, and illegally passing a school bus. State speeding fine levels are set in part by 47 O.S. Section 11-806.
